Reducing your carbon footprint with DFDS Logistics intermodal and container services
DFDS Logistics provide UK and Italian importers, exporters and freight forwarders with a first class, fast, efficient and environmentally friendly multimodal service.
Intermodal
Regular departures on DFDS Logistics own dedicated rail service between rail terminals at Hams Hall (near Birmingham) and Novara (near Milan) provide direct linkage between the UK and Italy's industrial heartlands, cutting down on the distance travelled by road and beating ever increasing road congestion whilst helping the environment!
Rail transport can reduce emissions by up to:
- Carbon Dioxide 90%
- Hydrocarbons 95%
- Sulphur Dioxide 76%
- Nitrogen Oxides 95%

Container
Container shipping is the most environmentally sound way to transport large volumes of goods across the world. In DFDS Logistics we believe container shipping is the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
For example, for every kilometre that a container ship carries a ton of cargo, it is far more energy efficient and emits much less in the way of harmful CO2 emissions than any other type of freight transport including airplane, truck and train. It is estimated that on average a container ship emits around 40 time less CO2 than a large freight aircraft and over three times less than a heavy truck. Container shipping is also estimated to be two and a half times more energy efficient that rail and 7 times more so than road.
